The Presidency of Vladimir Putin began on December 31, 1999, when he became the Acting President of the Russian Federation, after Boris Yeltsin's unexpected Resignation. Putin was the Prime Minister of Russia and Director of the Federal Security Service. During his presidency, Russia has recovered economically and become one of the richest countries in Europe as well as great power in the international community, and the country's influence over the former USSR States and others had significantly grow. ==Appointment and Inauguration== Right after Yeltsin’s resignation, Putin (who was the Chairman of the Government) was appointed as acting-president. Soon after he announced himself as a presidential candidate in the presidential elections which took place on March 2000, when he won the majority of the votes and became the President. Putin was taking the Presidential Oath in the Grand Kremlin Palace on 7 May 2000. He took an oath as the second President of the Russian Federation in a ceremony held in Kremlin Palace. After taking the oath of office he receive a gold chain of double-headed eagles which symbolizing the presidency.
